Imphal, May 16 2021:
In connection with the 35 oxygen cylinders which were brought in from Assam to Manipur on May 15, Jiribam DC Malemnganba Chenglei has clarified that the purchase was done by the state government and he was only responsible for finding the cylinders and bringing them to Manipur from the neighbouring state.
Stating that the news article published on the matter by The People's Chronicle and other local dailies had been misinterpreted, the DC clarified that with the hope of resolving the problem of shortage of medical oxygen following the rise of Covid-19 cases at least to some extent, the government began purchasing available oxygen cylinders from Assam.
His responsibility in the matter was to find available oxygen cylinders from Cachar, Silchar and other areas of Assam and bring them to Manipur.
The DC further said that a similar procurement was made by him under the aegis of the state government some time ago.
