Imphal, December 26 2021:
Without waiting for the government, some noble businessmen contributed money and laid concrete blocks along Thangal bazar by-lane (alley) and transformed it into one of the cleanest by-lanes in Imphalcity.
Many roads and by-lanes in Imphal city are currently filled with mud and earth due to recent works for laying pipeline by PHED thereby causing inconvenience to movement of public and business activities.
One such by-lanes is the busy Prajatantra alley with popular Padma Hotel as landmark.
As the by-lane remained unattended even after completion of pipeline laying work, local residents and traders pooled in money without waiting for the government and laid concrete blocks.
The work for laying the concrete blocks on the by-lane measuring 110 feet long and eight feet wide started on December 17 morning and completed at about 8pm the same day.
The by-lane was earlier flooded with drain water but this would not happen now as the concrete blocks were laid by raising the base by one foot from the previous level.
Another positive sign after concrete blocks had been laid is that there is no pile up of wastes on the clean looking by-lane.
Meanwhile, some concerned citizens and locals have lauded effort of the residents and businessmen in completing projects left incomplete by government.
