Power Minister inaugurates 3 power sub-stations

Power Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh inaugurated three 33/11 KV sub-stations in Imphal East today.
The three sub-stations are 33/11KV Sub-Station Top Khongangmakhong (Wakha), 33/11 KV Sub-Station Sanjenbam and 33/11 KV Sub-Station Porompat (Yaralpat), Imphal East.
Addressing a formal inauguration function held at the Porompat 33/11 KV Sub-Station campus, Biswajit said that inauguration of the three sub-stations as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a historic moment.
Saying that the present peak electricity demand of Manipur may be just around 230 MW, the Minister continued that the State has proper infrastructure to meet any increase in power demand and also to facilitate industrialization.
He also said that the Civil Secretariat and the Food Park, Yaithibhi Khunou will demand much power once they start operating.
Continuing that development is a gradual process, the Minister maintained that the cost of a per unit of electricity is low in Manipur as compared to other North East States.

Stating that the people of Manipur have access to electricity round the clock, Biswajit mentioned that the number of power sub-stations has also increased considerably in the State.
Biswajit also assured that power sub-stations at Ta-menglong and Gamphazol would be completed by June 2022.Further stating that the incumbent Government believes in reaching out to the last mile to bring development, he recounted some of his visits to the interior parts of hill districts.
The Minister also urged the public to use LED bulbs being provided to domestic consumers at a subsidized rate under the UJALA scheme so as to conserve energy and save money.
He said that the old heated bulbs emit toxic gasses detrimental to the environment.
The Minister also expressed that usage of the High Tension Low Sag (HTLS) conductor in the State will minimize the sagging of wires in hill areas.
Approximately 3.9 lakh prepaid meters have been installed and activated in the State to bring transparency and accountability in the State, Biswajit said.
The function was also attended by MLA Kshetrigao AC N Indrajit Singh, Manipur State Power Company Ltd (MSPCL), MD N Sarat Singh, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd (MSPDCL) MD Ng Subhachandra Singh, Power Grid General manager H Rajen Singh and others.
The sub-stations were constructed under the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP), which is a Central scheme for strengthening the Intra-State Transmission and Distribution System in six States of NER (Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland) at an estimated cost of Rs 5111.33 crore.
The scheme is being funded by the Government of India and World Bank on a 50:50 basis.
The project is being executed by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited in favour of the six NER States.
