To elected members of local bodies...Ibobi assures maximum power

Imphal, January 18 2016: Chief Minister O Ibobi has assured all the newly elected Councillors and Ward Members that the Government would devolve maximum powers to local bodies and the question of marginalising them would never arise.

A felicitation function of all Councillors who got elected on Congress tickets as well as independent Councillors who have joined Congress was held today at Congress Bhavan.

Congratulating all the newly elected Councillors and Ward Members, Ibobi appealed to all the elected representatives not to forget people's trust and confidence reposed in them.

He exhorted them to respect people's verdict all the time and explore what they can do for the welfare of people.

Assuring that the Government would extend all possible assistance to local bodies, Ibobi invited the newly elected representatives to come forward with constructive suggestions.

The recent Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat election rang a wake up bell for the Congress party specially in those areas where the party candidates were defeated.

He then appealed to the gathering to invest maximum efforts, time and energy to further strengthen Congress party in the State.

The newly elected Congress Councillors and Ward Members would have to shoulder heavy responsibility in order to ensure the party's victory in the next State Assembly election which is due next year.

Ibobi also appealed to all Congress workers and supporters to work collectively as a single unit so that the party can perform even better than 2012 when Congress secured 42 Assembly seats.

MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam remarked that the Congress party's popularity in Manipur has not declined a bit even though it suffered a little downslide in some States of India.

The Congress Government is on the verge of completing three successive terms.

The party still enjoys massive support to handle the State's administration for another term, claimed Gaikhangam.

People's trust and support for the party was evidenced in the results of the recent local body election, he asserted while conveying gratitude to all the voters.

All elected representatives are public servants and they should keep arrogance away from their mental disposition as far as possible.

BJP's euphoria over winning majority in just four Municipal Councils out of the total 18 looked rather ridiculous.

Congress would assume power in over 20 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats, Gaikhangam asserted.
