Vendors storm Jovkishan's house

A large number of women vendors today stormed Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykishan's Khoyathong residence demanding unconditional apology for allegedly dismantling the temporary market-sheds whch are currently under construction and verbally abusing some women vendors.
According to the irate womenfolk, the MLA came along with his security escorts and vandalised the temporary market sheds being constructed from Ima Keithel to Kasturi bridge along Thangal bazar road to accommodate the displaced women vendors of two Ima Keithels damaged in January 4 earthquake at around 10.30 am.
They said that some nonlocals also accompanied the MLA in dismantling the market sheds.
Soon after getting information of Joykishan's presence at the area, some women vendors went to the area and enquired the MLA what he was doing so.
Joykishan not only verbally abused the women but also told them that the area falls under his Constituency and the State G ovemment can't do whatever they wish without consulting him.
Later at around 1 pm, a large number of women vendors stormed the MLA's house demanding unconditional apology.
As the MLA was not there at.
his residence, a heated argument broke out between the vendors and a group of women who were present there.
Later, a large police team led by Imphal police SDPO arrived there and brought the situation under control.
However, the women vendors waited the MLA there till late evening.
It may be mentioned that the State Government is constructing temporary market sheds from Ima Keithel to Kasturi bridge along Thangai bazar road to provide a temporary vending space for the women vendors as two Ima Keithels developed cracks in the January 4 earthquake.
Shop owners of Thangai bazar had protested the said arrangement yesterday.
