Following the assurance of the Government fulfil some of the demands raised by the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur, the student body has decided to suspend its economic blockade with immediate effect.
With ATSUM suspending the blockade 169 stranded goods laden trucks reached Imphal late this evening.
After a marathon meeting at the CM's office today, 9 points were agreed between the two parties.
The Government assured that the Education (S) Dept will immediately engage the required number of Maths and Science, Arts graduate and undergraduate and Hindi graduate and under graduate teachers in the hills on contract basis with special preference to local candidates within April this year.
It was also agreed that the present posts of Addl Director of Education (S) valley and Additional Director of Education (S) hills shall be declared as HoDs with full powers and the Commissioner of Education (S) shall also function as Ex-officio Director of Education (S).
Action will be taken up within April.
The extension of pension benefits to District Council employees and filling up of its vacant posts will be implemented and due process will be completed within one month.
The demand to revive the special cell of ST/SC students in Manipur University has also been implemented, said the Government and added that the post of Deputy Director (TD) will be re-designated as DO (TD) when posted in the hill districts within April this year.
The reservation rules under the Reservation of SC and ST Act will be formulated within three months time.
A Committee comprising the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Hills and TD), Principal Secretary (Plg), Commissioner (Finance) and Commissioner (Edn S) will be set up by April 5 to study the conversion of 13 grant-in-aid schools in the hill districts to Government schools.
The 13 schools include Valte Khamzathang High School, CCpur, Patpuihmun High School CCpur, Hill Modern School, CCpur, North District High School Spt, Phaibung High School, Spt, Ngari High School Spt, Thiwa High School, Spt, Laii High School, Spt, Tunghou High School, Ukl, Mapithel Areas High School, Ukl, Gorkha High School, Spt, Maram High School, Spt and Makui High School, Tml.
The Govt also assured to fill up the four vacancies of Firemen driver for ST in the Fire Service Department only from ST candidates as and when the ban on recruitment is lifted.
