Imphal, March 31:
Observing that despite repeated appeals and reminders to implement Inner Line Permit System in the State, the State Government has been sitting idle over the issue, the All Meitei Development Association, Barak Area have warned that the present trend of trend unchecked influx would render the indigenous populace of Manipur a minority in their own land in not so distant future just like the indigenous Tripuris.
A statement issued by the Association remarked that to implement ILPS would be one positive step towards the free influx of people from other States of India and foreign countries as is urged by FREINDS and other social organisations.
Reminding that such free influx of foreigners had enabled one foreigner Kishore Thappa to get himself elected in the assembly election of Senapati district, it disclosed that in Jiribam too, outsiders have been dominating in several local body elections like Panchayats since the last many years.
Expressing apprehension that this unhealthy development may encroach upon Jiribam too, it asserted that such active participation by non locals are being witnessed in Sugnu, Serou and Saiton etc.
Taking into view of such unhealthy encroachment by non locals not only in the economic sphere of the State but also in politics, it urged the State Government to take up remedial steps including ILPS immediately to avoid a phenomenal spate in crimes and other unwanted fall outs.
