One more person at Thoubal District has died after being bitten by a dog suspected to be affected by Rabies.
The 80-year old victim identified as Thiyam Thambalngou of Thoubal Thiyam Khunjao passed away at around 11.30 am today.
He was admitted to RIMS Hospital for treatment in the afternoon of March, but after the doctors told the family members that it was too late, the victim was brought back home where succumbed to the canine disease.
According to family members and close relatives, there was an incident some three months back in which Thambalngou started having pain on his right thumb after feeding an ailing dog with his own hands.
The dog died some days later.
A few days back, Thambalngou started feeling unwell and began to show symptoms of Rabies.
Subsequently, he was admitted to RIMS Hospital for treatment in the afternoon of March 28. With the doctors suspecting that it might be an advanced case of Rabies, the family members were asked to take the victim back home.
Subsequenlty Thambalngou was treated by Chief Medical Officer of Thoubal Ksh Manglem, who opined that it might be a case of Rabies infection.
The team of Medical Department headed by Dr Th Biren had also taken blood sample of Thambalngou for testing and further inquiry.
The bereaved family members and the relatives lamented that despite knowing that the old man was dying from Rabies , RIMS authorities did not report the matter to the State Government and simply discharged the patient from the hospital.
It is because of this attitude of the RIMS authority and the State Government that the number of death toll in Rabies outbreak has reached 11 in Thoubal District alone, they charged.
Body found : The body of a man was recovered from near Maharaja Bodhachandra College at Palace Compound under Porompat Police Station at around 4.50 pm yesterday.
Appears to be around 40 years of age, the man was lean and found clad in a stripped Khudei, a black shirt and a white coloured Inaphi.
