Nine houses have been reduced to cinders after devastating fire erupted at Chandel and Ukhrul districts.
At Chandel district a fire broke out at Narum village in Tengnoupal sub-division at around 6.30 am today engulfing seven houses and rendering the residents homeless as the entire structures and household properties have reportedly been consumed in the inferno beyond redemption.
According to preliminary report, the blaze occurred when the locals were burning wastes of building materials of a newly constructed house.
As the wastes were put to flame a sudden gush of wind swept across the village thereby throwing the flame to a nearby cluster of houses.
The other incident took place at K Somrei village which is in Ukhrul district but falls within the jurisdiction of Yairipok police station.
The fire that erupted in the wee hours yesterday damaging two houses belonging to one C Laichasan.
Including Rs 25,000 and fire is informed to have caused damage to the tune of Rs 3.50 lakhs.
Timely intervention of villagers from the nearby Chandrakhong, Tangkhul Khullen and Mayai Keithel as well as personnel of 34 AR prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent houses, said press source.
CCpur fire (From our Correspondent): The spate of fire related calamities continue to hound Churachandpur even as another house was smolder to ashes in the early hours yesterday.
The fire triggered allegedly by an electric wire shattered property worth Rs.50,000 belonging to one Vanlalruot of Muol-vaiphei, about 5kms from here at around 1am.It maybe noted that 2 houses including the school building were gutted at Takvom, a village 30 kms away from here on the 28th March while Niengneihat alias Hahat (21) w/o Sonkhogin Haokip of Ngoiphai succumbs the same day after receiving 90% burnt from wild fire.
