Imphal, October 22:
With the Government issuing an order for lifting prohibition imposed on entry at the erstwhile MSCP office located south of Raj Bhavan yesterday, enthusiastic BJP leaders and workers today celebrated the occasion by unfurling the party flag for the second time at the same site.
Jubilant BJP workers conducted social service at the previously disputed complex before the State BJP president Th Chaoba unfurled the party flag this morning following an order issued by the Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Y Surchandra lifting restrictions clamped under CrPC 144 yesterday.
As a formality, SP Imphal West reportedly gave the green signal to lift the restriction based on the recent court ruling favouring the national political party.
The MSCP and State unit of the BJP were involved in a gruelling court tussle over the office building and plot ever since former MP and present BJP president Th Chaoba left the MSCP and merged with the saffron party along with his supporters on November 14, 2002.Even though the BJP flag was raised at the complex for the first time two days after Chaoba and his loyalists joined the BJP, State authorities restricted entry of unauthorised persons the next morning following escalation in tension between MSCP and BJP activists over the office complex/plot.
During the course of the legal tussle an Assistant Survey and settlement Officer (V) of the settlement Department A Tombi was placed under suspending for his alleged role in allotting the disputed land to the BJP and a departmental inquiry proceeded against the official.
Following subsequent claims and counter claims between the two political parties Civil Judge Junior Division of the Fast Track Court delivered the verdict ending over three years of dispute.
In compliance with the Court ruling the State authorities lifted the restriction finally paving the way for free entry of BJP activists.
A jubilant Th Chaoba expressed that despite the court ruling coming much earlier party leaders and workers in honour of law of the land refrained from entering into the Nityaipat Chuthek office complex waiting for the formal order of lifting the CrPC 144.
