For development of the society cooperation in all walks of life has become a pre-requisite for speedy development of the society, said Aleng AS Shimaray, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur district while speaking as a chief guest during the one day block level seminar on economic growth through new generation cooperatives held at Nambol Chingmang.
The seminar was organised by National Cooperative Union of India, Cooperative Education Field Project, Bishnupur under the sponsorship of NCUI, New Delhi.
He said that present turmoil-filled society of Manipur calls for working hand in hand between the people and the Government officials so that the ills and suffering of the people as a whole can be mitigated upto certain extend.
Lashing out at one man cooperative society, Shimaray said that the society run by these one man show is an enemy of the people and a challenge to the people as a whole adding that numerous NGOs and societies run by one man have cropped up in recent past to usurp the rights of the people.
He also said that a meeting of Deputy Commissioners of all districts with bank officials will be held on October 24 at State Guest House to discuss on the need for providing thrust to Self Help Groups and also on modalities for extending loan facilities to the SHGs.
In his presidential speech Kh Borkeshor Singh, chairman ICM Imphal, said that imparting training to members of cooperative societies and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) is an investment in itself as it will provide the much needed thrust for the survival of societies.
He urged the delegates of the Coop.
societies and PACS present on the occasion to take part in the training programmes organised by Institute of Cooperative Management, Lamphelpat and Centre for Cooperative Management for efficient management of the societies.
Admitting that Cooperatives is in infancy stage in the State, SC Borah, principal ICM Imphal said that lot needs to be done for development of cooperatives as compared to other States of the country.
Moreover, it is predominantly governed by Government funds and is not contributing enough for socio-economic development of the people.
He enlightened the delegates that new generation cooperatives is a different concept and can perform in better way and should go hand in hand with traditional cooperatives with the latter lending support to the former.
