Imphal, January 29, 2011:
The opposition Manipur People's Party (MPP) has described the fast-unto-death agitation by members of council of Teachers' Association (COTA), in pursuit of its demand for implementation of 6th Central Revised Pay in toto, as justifiable.
The regional political organisation also claimed that Right to Information Act has been invoked to demand from authorities concerned detailed information about power bill dues by Ministers, MLAs and high ranking officials.
Speaking to newspersons at its office after returning from RIMS Hospital, where a delegation of the political organisation handed over monetary assistance to an injured journalist, MPP vice president Y Mangi, who is also currently the president in-charge, expressed support to the cause of the agitating COTA members, some of whom are presently staging fast-unto-death agitation at Keishampat area.
Taking grim note of the State Government's alleged indifferent attitude to 'reasonable demand' of COTA, Mangi also asserted that MPP would highlight the issue along with the Government's failure to find an amicable solution in the party's campaign in the next general election.
With reference to the ongoing drive against power theft and collection of outstanding electricity bill, Mangi opined that such a drive will have adverse affect upon students belonging to economically unsound families as preparations are on for upcoming examinations.
While expressing serious concern for the student community, he confided that MPP has sought information about outstanding power dues by Ministers, MLAs, Government departments and other high ranking officials.
Earlier, a delegation of the political party also comprising MPP general secretary Kh Ibomcha and Treasurer S Umananda called on injured Ereibak daily reporter Thounaojam Brojen, who is recovering at RIMS Hospital after an accident some days back.
Even as the MPP team enquired on the condition of Brojen, RIMS Superintendent Y Mohen informed that all possible assistance is being extended to the injured scribe from the side of the Hospital.
on their way back, the MPP team met COTA members, who are on fast-onto-d eath agitation at Keishampat.
