Two shot dead, mishap claims one

A youth and a 40 year old man have been found shot dead in two separate incidents while a youth shot dead near RIMS gymnasium has turned out to be a college student.
A young brick-layer was found shot dead near Catholic School, Canchipur this morning while one Amway agent was shot dead near Kangmong Maisnam Leikai Waroiching this afternoon.
On the other hand, the youth shot dead near RIMS gymnasium last night has been identified as one Narengbam Amitkumar alias Boycha (22) s/o Saratkumar of Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai.
Amitkumar was staying with his grand father at Uripok Khaidem Leikai.
He was a BA 2nd year student at YK College.
Identity of the youth shot dead at Canchipur has been established as one Laithangbam Ranbir (20) s/o Ibopishak of Heirangoithong Mutum Leirak.
According to information culled from the spot, one motorcycle and a scooter were seen speeding away soon after gun shots were heard at about 7 pm yesterday.
A bullet which hit Ranbir on the left cheek exited through the head.
A severed tooth and a part of tongue were found a little distance away from the corpse.
The corpse was found lying over a drain along Liwa Road near Catholic School.
Three spent cartridges and a projectile were also discovered from the spot.
Ranbir's father, Ibopishak said that his son had been in jail for about six months in connection with drug abuse case.
He came out from jail only on December 27 last.
He had no relation with any UG group.
He left home at about 4.30 pm yesterday taking along with him one mobile phone and some cash.
Meanwhile, one Amway agent identified as Huidrom Subash (40) of Ishok Mayai Leikai was shot dead at Kangmong Maisnam Leikai under Nambol police station at about 1.15 pm today.
Fatal bullet injuries were observed on his head and neck.
It is reported that some people saw Subash heading towards Kangmong from Nambol in his car (Maruti, MN-06L/0144) at about 1 pm today.
The car has also been recovered from the site of the killing.
Documents related to Amway were found inside the car.
On the other hand, a public meeting was held today at Wangjing after which a joint action committee (JAC) was constituted in connection with the killing of Amitkumar.
The meeting denounced the killing and resolved to launch intense forms of agitation if the Government fails to book the killers within 24 hours.
On the other hand, a large crowd of people coming from Wangjing attacked the house of one Irengbam Reba (20) s/o Balbanta at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai on the charge that Reba was involved in the killing of Amitkumar.
It is reported that Reba called Amitkumar to Lamphel through mobile phone when the latter was talking with his friends at Uripok Khaidem Leikai Nambul Mapal last night.
The crowd not only vandalised Reba's house but also set afire clothes outside the house.
Later, police drove away the mob.
It is said that Reba is engaged in mobile phone repairing as a profession.
The JAC has called an indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh section of NH-39 in protest against the killing.
One dies in mishap: One auto-rickshaw driver has been killed when his auto-rickshaw collided with a truck near Heingang Kangjeibung in Imphal East district this afternoon.
The fatal mishap occurred as Maisnam Brojen (43) of Awang Potshangbam Wabagai was returning to Imphal in his auto-rickshaw after delivering a rice load to an Anganwadi centre at Heingang.
Brojen died on the spot.
