Imphal, July 17 2009:
Following the meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh and Dr Manmohan Singh on the sideline of NAM summit, a team of Bangladeshi MPs, is set to arrive at Imphal on July 30 in connection with inspecting the site of the Tipaimukh Multipurpose Project, which is proposed to be constructed over Barak river, along the border of Manipur and Mizoram.
According to an official source, on their arrival at Imphal on July 30, the team of 15 Bangladeshi MPs would be flown to Tipaimukh in a helicopter for first hand inspection of the site.
Bangladesh has been opposing the construction of Tipaimukh Multipurpose Project, fearing that it would affect the flow of water to its territory.
The team was scheduled to visit Imphal on July 15, but it had to be postponed as the leaders of the two neighbouring countries were expected to discuss the issue on the sidelines of the NAM summit at the Egyptian resort of Sharm-al-Sheikh.
The meeting between the two leaders took place today.
In connection with the visit of its Parliamentary team to Manipur, Bangladesh has already sought permission from the External Affairs Ministry of India.
The State Government has also been intimated about the visit of the team.
