Imphal, February 03 2009:
Remembering Md Alimuddin, who was the Chief Minister of the first elected MPP-led Government after attainment of Statehood, on the occasion of his 27th death anniversary, held at Lilong Haoreibi College hall today, party president Dr L Chandramani has described Alimuddin as the only political leader who ruled the State judiciously along with farsightedness and the question of integrity of Manipur in mind.
Legislative Wing leader of the party MLA O Joy also hailed Alimuddin as the architect who laid the foundation of a modern Manipur.
Organised by the 27th Death Anniversary Celebration Committee of the party, the function attended by many Muslim leaders of Lilong Assembly Constituency commenced with recitation of Quraan Khani and the welcome address delivered by treasurer of MPP Ayub Khan.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Chandramani said Md Alimuddin was the only true political leader who judiciously ruled the State and made significant contributions to the society inspite of his short tenure as the Chief Minister.
There has been no one like him in political history of Manipur.
He was a farsighted leader who carried out his duties with the integrity of the State in the mind, he added.
Expressing regret over the absence of the family members of the departed leader to participate in the function, Dr Chandramani urged them not to remain confine at home at the time of the next anniversary function.
All of us should try to follow the path shown by him, he exhorted, while informing the gathering that MPP is trying to set up a memorial park in honour of Alimuddin in Lilong Assembly Constituency very soon.
Dr Chandramani also appealed to the people of the Assembly Constituency to support the MPP and its candidate in the forthcoming Parliament and Assembly elections.
Legislature Wing leader of the party MLA O Joy, who also spoke at the occasion, said Alimuddin was a true leader of the party who advocated self-reliance and dignity and he sacrificed his life to the cause of the people which was dear to him before everything else.
MPP is a brain child of Alimuddin, he added.
During his short stint as the Chief Minister of Manipur, Alimuddin had accomplished many tasks, Joy said, adding that establishment of Manipur University, Board of Secondary Education and declaration of August 13 (Patriots' Day) as the State holiday had been done during his time.
History is witnessed to the agitation launched both by Congress and CPI against setting up by RIMS Hospital which was previously known as RMC, Joy said, and went on to say that when the Congress party toppled the Alimuddin led Government, public of Manipur specially the womenfolk of Khwairamband Bazar shed tears.
It was from among those womenfolk who were lodged in jail for protesting against toppling the MPP-led Government that the Chanura Marup, the women wing of the party came into existence.
He was also the architect of modern Manipur, Joy hailed.
Prof N Mohendra, who also spoke at the occasion, categorically stated that besides MPP which was set up by Alimuddin there is no other political parties which could save Manipur.
To bring about change in the administration, people of Manipur today want a Chief Minister who could sacrifice his life for the cause of saving Manipur, a Governor who genuinely loves Manipur and an MP who could speak up courageously for the people of Manipur in the Parliament from MPP.
MPP's choice ?.
Prof N Mohendro is likely to be named as the candidate of the MPP in the Inner Constituency for the Lok Sabha election.
A source informed that his name may be announced formally after a meeting of the MPP is held.
