Imphal, March 31:
It was running against time for the State Government in trying to wrap up all the pending works as the 2004-05 financial year came to close tonight.
The employees working in the South and the North Block of the State Secretariat worked overtime with the police commandos on guard, and the Principal Secretary (Finance) who usually attends duty at South Block office flipped files at the Chief Ministers office today.
The commandos were pressed into service at the State Secretariat right from 9 am so that the employees could work in peace.
The security personnel also screened all the people including the employees who entered the Secretariat.
The urgency of the task at hand was such that the Principal Secretary (Finance) RC Mishra, whose office is located at the South Block, sat at the Chief Ministers Office to keep tract of details of the fund allocated to various Department for development works during the financial year and other related works.
In an office memorandum issued late evening yesterday, the Principal Secretary (Finance) had asked all the Departments to submit to the Chief Secretary, Vigilance Department and Finance Department within April 5 lists of work/supply for which fund have been allocated.
Meanwhile, an official source informed that submission of these lists is necessary as it would facilitate the Committee to be set up to check details of work/supply allotted to various Government Departments.
If any of the Departments were found to have provided all the sanctioned fund before the works were completed or the supplied goods not received till date, the Department concerned would be held responsible for misusing the fund, according to the official source.
