Jadonang tribute event to be held solemnly

Ahead of the 90th death anniversary Zeliangrong freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang, which falls on August 29, Zeliangrong Union (ZU) and Haipou Jadonang Park Development & Death Anniversary Committee have appealed to all clubs, villages and churches to hold the tribute event at their respective premises/localities by maintaining all the Covid 19 safety protocols.
In a release, ZU (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) general secretary Pantijai Newmei urged for lighting candles in every Zeliangrong household in the evening as a mark of respect to the freedom fighter.
He conveyed that due to Covid-19 related restrictions, the usual grand observance of the day at Haipou Jadonang Memorial Park, Keishampat will not be possible this year.
However, floral tributes would be offered at 6:30 am by members of the organising committee and select dignitaries, the secretary said and informed that the park will be kept open from morning till 1 pm on the said day to enable the public pay their respects with strict adherence to the safety protocols.
Haipou Jadonang, who was a Zeliangrong spiritual leader, social reformist and political leader, was hanged to death by the British India government on August 29, 1931 for his demand for independence from British colonial rule.
