MLA Nemcha stresses importance of language

Kangpokpi MLA Nemcha Kipgen launched 'Napao Kijilin' programme at the Deborah Hall of Mount Sinai School in Motbung model village on Thursday and distributed prizes to winners of community-level competition on Thadou arts & poetry.
The prize distribution cum launching programme of 'Napao Kijilin' was organised by Thadou Linguistic Forum (TLF) and it was also attended by social activist Dr Lamtinthang Haokip and Motbung model village chief Kaikhosei Lhouvum.
After declaration of the results of community level competition on Thadou arts and poetry held online, MLA Nemcha Kipgen along with dignitaries distributed prizes to the winners.
Lalthanglen Hangshing of K Twikun village of Kangpokpi district, Chonsanglen Lunkim of Kangpokpi DHQ and Thanglenmang Singsit of Molhoi, Leimakhong bagged first, second and third prize respectively in traditional arts competition while Jamkhongam Haokip of G Songgel in Churachandpur district, Thangminlal Haokip of Aigejang (Chandel) and Naocy Haokip of Assam bagged first, second and third position respectively in the Thadou poetry competition.
Pastor Mangboi Thadou of TBAI, who attended the function as dedicating minister, invoked blessing prayer for all the participants and winners of the competition.
Stressing the importance of language, Nemcha Kipgen sajd that it is important to preserve language as it is responsible for the development of a culture of the community and helps in preservation of heritage and tradition of a community.
When a language is lost, part of culture of a community is lost and by the same measure, when language is preserved, tradition and customs continue to live in the hearts and minds of those who understand it, the MLA added.
While appreciating the initiatives of Thadou Linguistic Forum, Nemcha Kipgen said that the efforts and struggles of the forum will bring a bright future for future generations and it will hone the youth towards cultural and socio development.
Dr Lamtinthang Haokip and Kaikhosei Lhouvum also spoke on the occasion and appreciated initiative of Thadou Linguistic Forum.
Thadou Linguistic Forum secretary Paominlun Lhouvum said that the forum was formed on March 22,2021 at TBA conference hall, Motbung after it was unanimously resolved on March 16, 2019 in a joint meeting participated by all those concerned about Thadou dialect from Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, Chandel, Kangpokpi and other districts.
Thadou Poetry and History and many Thadou booklets were also distributed at the event.
