Imphal, December 02 2021:
As the election related activities are increasing day by day with the 2022 state assembly approaching fast, Change For Better Manipur (CFBM) has appealed to different political parties and intending candidates to ensure that all the participants in motorcycle or two-wheeler rallies they organise wear helmets mandatorily.
According to the group's founder Dimbeshwor Sharma, traffic control police are collecting penalty from two-wheeler riders who do not wear helmets but 90 per cent of the participants in bike rallies related with election campaigns do not wear helmets and the traffic police do nothing against them.
Interestingly, employees driving government issued two-wheeler vehicles could also be seen without helmets.
Such loopholes on the part of the government and law enforcing agencies put a big question mark on the government's policy.
While participation of youth in politics is a welcoming step, but violation of traffic rules by replacing helmet with a flag and cap of a political party is something unacceptable.
CFBM and other likeminded groups had organised various campaigns on traffic rules but the activities of the political parties and their intending candidates have made the campaigns meaningless, he said.
He then urged all the political parties and intending candidates to make helmet mandatory for participants in election related bike rallies in future and lead the public by example.
