Imphal, December 02 2021:
Manipur pulled off a 1-0 win over Mizoram to qualify for the Santosh Trophy final round on Thursday at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
After a barren first half that saw some squandered chances from both sides, NG Bedeenpar Mayon rose to the occasion in the second-half contest as his 63rd-minute goal was enough for Manipur to earn their passage to the final round of the 75th Santosh Trophy.
The state side finished atop the northeast zone table with six points from their three games.
They were level on points with Mizoram who also ended their campaign with two wins and a loss.
But Manipur eclipsed Mizoram on better goal difference to qualify for the Santosh Trophy competition.
Earlier, Nagaland demolished Tripura 6-0 in an inconsequential match as Laiwang Bohham scored a hat-trick.
Laiwang Bohham struck in the opener just 8 minutes from kickoff and he went on to grab his second goal in the 19th minute before Kakhevi Assumi tripled the lead in the 25th minute.
Moments later, Nagaland were awarded a penalty kick as Bohham stepped up to convert from the spot and completed his hat-trick.
Then Visalie Mezhu made it 4-0 in the 48th minute as Pursunep rounded off the scoring with a 65th-minute strike.
