Imphal, December 02 2021:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) would be holding a meeting on December 4 at its office regarding the high fare rates and inconveniences faced by transporters, said Union secretary general Bikramjit Thongam.
According to the release, AMSU has been working tirelessly over the years including organising public meetings and discussions from time-to-time to bring about an amicable solution to the recurring issues of high fare rates charged by passenger service providers from the students and general public, along with the inconveniences faced by the transporter associations.
In addition to the Covid-19 pandemic, the pricesof daily essential items have gone up in the past few months along with fare rates, resulting in frequent stand-offs between the public and the transporters.
The statement continued that the current transportation rate was fixed as per the gazette order of 2008.However, the rate is no longer practical in the present time and as such, transporters have not been following the gazette order for quite some time now.
Thus, with the aim of resolving the issues, AMSU organised an 'Open discussion on transportation fare hike and grievances of transporters' at its head office in DM University campus on November 22, which was attended by representatives of transporter associations (Bus Union, Auto Association, Winger Association, Tata Magic Association and other passenger service associations), students and general public.
During the discussion, 5 resolutions were adopted.
A decision was also taken to organise another joint meeting of AMSU and transporter associations at the former's head office on December 4 at 11.30 am, to discuss the formation of a Joint Transporters' Committee to see implementation of the said resolutions.
The Joint Transporters' Committee will be responsible for resolving the inconveniences faced by the public and the transporters.
As such, the students' body urged all transporter associations of the state to take part in the meeting.
