Kakching, December 02 2021:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary Loitongbam Tilotama has said that people need to recognise the true face of BJP and the web of lies it is weaving.
She made the statement during a press meet organised by Block Congress Committee (BCC) Kakching at its office, Kakching Bazar on Thursday.
Tilotama said that in addition to speaking beautiful words in public, BJP has also produced a well-crafted manifesto.
However, all of us must try to recognise BJP's true face and the blandishment propaganda it is indulging in, especially in the light of the upcoming assembly elections.
Many of the party's central leaders including union cabinet and state ministers are continuing to visit various parts of state every other day but no prospect is seen from these visits.
No proper package for the state has been announced but the state continues to shell out money to provide the best hospitality since the visitors are guests of the state.
"The money being used to entertain the visitors are basically tax paid by the people.
It should be noted that the ruling government is unable to pay the salaries of its employees, pension for pensioners, and clear the bills for contractors," she remarked.
Tilotama continued: "The bamboos being erected along the roads, and the cloths used to make the party flags did not fall from the sky free of cost.
Fuel prices are being raised under the garb of free Covid vaccine.
What pretext is the party going to use now to collect money from the people so as to fund the expenses for the planted flags.
"The government has also been broadcasting heavily that the education sector in the state has modernised under itsVule, leading to improvement of the education system and increase of students' enrolment in government schools by 25 percent due to reformation of school education.
However, the 16th Annual Status of Education Report 2021 puts the enrolment rate at 13.4 percent.
"In addition, the BJP government claims to have constructed houses for the poor.
However, no funds have been sanctioned after it failed to submit the UC for the instalment of the 1st phase.
The government also introduced new schemes but they fell short of the schemes launched by Congress such as MGNREGS, Right to Food, Right to Education, Right to Life, etc," she contended.
Questioning why the 'Sab-ka Saath Sabka Vikas' slogan is unable to reach the young peopje, the general secretary further asked why the government could not live up to its assurances of working in consideration of the ethics of young people, respect them and improve education, especially with its inability to conduct the MPSC examination during its tenure.
Tilotama then said: "The BJP government claims to have improved the administrative system and brought stability to law and order situation in the state.
However, if it was really so, the state cabinet could have taken a decision to scrap the Disturbed Area Status of the state, instead of extending it, and ensure the complete repealing of AFSPA.
BJP is unable to lift the disturbed area status even from one assembly segment while Congress successfully did so from 7 assembly segments.
If the situation had truly improved, the kidnapping and subsequent murder of a civilian by NSCN (IM) cadres from a programme attended by the CM himself, would have never happened".
Urging the people to recognise the hidden face of BJP, the general secretary said that the party is compatible with the mainland but not to a small state like Manipur with its own indigenous population.
The government may have implemented the ILP system but a portion of it is kept out of purview, considering it has never punished those without valid passes.
The entire implementation was, in reality, a gimmick.
She went to say: "Other hidden agendas against the indigenes include replacing the Rs 10 and 20 bank notes, which play an important role in religious functions, with coins.
This is not ideal for poor families and it would only over burden, them in social gatherings/interactions.
In other words, instead of trying to imitate the conditions of wealthy countries, it would be better to try to improve our standing first.
"Aside from this, the rice distribution system is in chaos as agents peculate the rice meant for the people.
During Congress reign, the goal was to improve the condition of the poor.
However, BJP's rule is all taking away the entitled benefits of the poor and giving them away to the rich and wealthy, "she said.
"Regarding the upcoming elections, BJP is planning to contest without a set agenda in mind but rather parroting what it has claimed to have accomplished in terms of good governance, resolving hill-valley issue, etc, and urging the people to vote for them.
However, it is yet to announce anything meant for the welfare of the people.
If the people were to naively vote for BJP without looking into the facts, they would not be able to say anything once the party comes to power and does whatever it likes," she cautioned.
Tilotama then urged the people to attend election meetings of BJP as well as Congress to understand the stand and thoughts of each party so as to come to an informed decision on which candidate/party to vote for in the polls.
However, it should be noted that if one were to vote for BJP, a political party which does not care about the indigenous people and continuously disrespects the Constitution, Manipur will surely cease to exist, she remarked.
The press meet was also attended by District Congress Committee Kakching president Elangbam Manglem, Block Congress Committee Kakching president Kshetrimayum Ibohal, MPCC general secretary Siraj Ahmad, NSUI Manipur State president Md Kabir Ahamad, District Mahila Congress Committee Kakching president Pukhrambam Baby Devi, Block Mahila Congress Committee Kakching president Moirangthem Pishak Devi, Kakching AC intending INC candidates Yehgkhom Nilachandra, Kshetrimayum Kennedy, Naorem Kobit and others.
