Imphal, April 08 2022:
Volunteers of All Assam Manipuri Youth Association (AAMYA), which imposed a counter blockade against the indefinite bandh called by Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) recently, were felicitated in a simple function held at the office of Indigenous People 's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) on Friday.
While felicitating ten volunteers of AAMYA, IPAK president Ksh Somorendro said that people of Manipur suffered untold suffering when Nagaland based SAPO called indefinite bandh along Imphal-Dimapur road recently.
However, AAMYA imposed a counter blockade in Assam section of the same highway till SAPO lifted the bandh, he said, adding that AAMYA launched the counter blockade for the sake of people of Manipur and AAMYA's effort was lauded by many sections of the society.
Owing to the counter blockade launched by AAMYA, the indefinite bandh along the highway was lifted and for this AAMYA volunteers were felicitated, he added.
The IPAK president further said that people of the North East must help each other rather than causing suffering to people of neighbouring state and any misunderstanding between people of two neighbouring states could be resolved through dialogue.
He then appealed to all concerned not to impose blockade which would add suffering to people.
PANDAM president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, who also attended the function, said that the indefinite blockade called by SAPO was suspended only after AAMYA imposed a counter blockade while government of Manipur remained silent after merely saying that Nagaland government was apprised on the matter.
It was due to courageous efforts of AAMYA volunteers that SAPO had to retreat their stand and lifted the bandh, he added.
