BHSSSU warns school shutdown over teacher shortage

Imphal, September 15 2022:
Students of Borobekra Higher Secondary School on Wednesday carried out a rally and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Education minister, local MLA, Education director and Jiribam DC through Borobekra Sub-Division SDC M Debananda Singh, demanding immediate appointment of teachers and either a regular principal or a vice principal for the school at the earliest.
In this regard, Borobekra Higher Secondary School Students' Union (BHSSSU) general secretary P Sanju Singh said that around 700 students are enrolled in Classes VI to XII of the school.
However, there is not enough teachers to teach the students.
There is not even a regular principal or a vice principal, a teacher for chemistry subject and almost all the teachers appointed at the time of upgrade of the school have been transferred.
Thus, he urged for immediate appointment of a regular principal or a vice principal, replacement for the transferred teachers and introduction of education and computer science subjects from next year onwards, failing which the school will be closed down indefinitely from next month.
During the rally, the students held placards inscribed with slogans like "We don't want strikes", "We want to learn", "How will we learn and study without teachers", "We want to fill up the shortage of teachers" and "Save the students of Borobekra Hr Sec School".
Borobekra OC Shyam and his sub-ordinate personnel kept a watch over the rally to prevent any unwanted consequences.
