Education essential for human resource development: Governor

Governor La Ganesan said that human resource development will be decisive for a nation's strength, progress and prosperity and education is one of the key elements for human resource development.
Speaking as chief guest at the Governor's Award & RK Sanatombi Devi Award distribution ceremony held at Asha-Jina Complex, North AOC, here, on Thursday, Governor Ganesan observed that the main purpose of education is to inculcate among the students the ability to think and apply the knowledge they acquire in class rooms in solving social problems.
The responsibility of importing knowledge and education rests with the teachers who are considered to be moral guardians, friends, philosophers and guides in moulding the character of students.
The students have to acquire knowledge, skill and education so as to enable them to shoulder the responsibilities to be entrusted upon them by society.
It is therefore, imperative for all to do everything possible to inspire, encourage and support the students so that they are able to play a meaningful and de -termined role in the nation's future, he said.
The Governor further said that education should not only emphasise on access to global knowledge, but should also uphold the richness of culture and values.
Education should stimulate all aspects of human intellectual potential.
It is equally important to ensure that the students are equipped with core values needed to live as responsible citizens in the complex democratic societies, he added.
He appreciated RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya for consistently producing quality students and presentation of the Governor's Award.
Education minister Th Basantakumar, who was also present at the event, said that education is not just about being literate but to understand the world around.
Students should have the courage to stand up and speak their viewpoints and also should be good listeners.
They should believe in their teachers, mentors and guardians and should also listen to their elders.
Ihis will help them in developing good discipline and good habits, which will further help in their future, he added.
Award selection board chairman retired IAS RK Nimai also attended the programme during which Governor La Ganesan presented Governor's Award for the year 2021 and 2011 to Khumbongmayum Pan-shi (Class X-C) and Evana Thangjam (Class X-A) respectively.
He also presented Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Award 2022 to Kangabam Tamphaleima Chanu (traffic police); CC Higher Secondary School teacher Rk Romila Devi (teacher); District Public Health Nursing Officer, CMO Porompat Kakching-tabam Sumati Devi (nurse); Gurumayum Shivachan-dra Sharma of Brahmapur Aribam Leikai (differently abled person); boxer Sana-macha Chanu Thokchom of Khongjom Chingtham Maning Leikai and swimmer Laitonjam Lanchenba of Singjamei Mathak Thokchom Leikai (sports); and Hanjabam Langlentombi Devi of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya (best student in co-curricular activities/sports) .
