Eco-Carp Hatchery Unit Inaugurated

An Eco-Carp Hatchery Unit set up under the Fisheries Value Chain Project with the support of ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth in partnership with Thoujal Self Help Group was inaugurated on Thursday at Heigum Yangbi village, Imphal West by secretary (fisheries)'Haobam Rosita.
The event was attended by Fisheries director H Balkrisna Singh, Head of Operations Suketu Kumar, Zonal Head (East) Deep-anjan Biswas, ICICI Bank AGM KSJ Gangte, ICICI Foundation project manager Pumgouthang and Deban Singh of Thoujal Self Help Group.
Addressing the gathering, Haobam Rosita said that the deficit of fish production of 20,000 MTs in the state could be bridged by fish cultivators by following scientific practices and supplying of good quality spawns in sufficient numbers.
She also expressed confidence that the eco-carp hatchery inaugurated on Thursday will play a vital role for the fish farmers of the state and conveyed gratitude to the ICICI Foundation and the entire ICICI Group for the initiatives they have undertaken for the welfare of the community.
In his address, Fisheries director H Balkrisna stressed on the importance of resource utilisation and mentioned that the state is blessed with freshwater in abundance.
He also advised members of the Thoujal Self Help Group to take up the activity with full vigour and create new history in days to come.
While expressing gratitude towards ICICI Foundation and ICICI Group for taking various developmental initiatives for the fish farmers, he assured that the department will continue working with ICICI Foundation for transformation fisheries sector in the state.
ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth started Fisheries Value Chain project in the state since 2019 and conducted capacity building programme for more than 1000 fish farmers across rural villages of Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.
It has also developed multiple farmers' facilitation centres, enterprises on smoke kilns, refrigerated fish vending kiosks, solar dryer unit, mustard processing unit and Bio-floc units across these districts as well.
