Doctor accused of jabbing for money

Thoubal, May 15 2021:
A doctor who was allegedly found vaccinating people at his residence charging Rs 300 per dose was apprehended by members of Covid-19 Task Force Committee, Thoubal Ningombam on Saturday.
The accused doctor Athokpam Rajen of Thoubal Ningombam, serving as the MO in-charge of Khoirom PHC, was rounded up by members of the Committee in the presence of a team of Thoubal Ningombam police outpost.
Speaking to The People's Chronicles regarding the incident, Committee convener Irom Ongbi Subhasini revealed that for the past few days several people were seen around the doctor's house, coming in and out.
Following this, the Committee volunteers accompanied by the police team went to check his residence where he was caught red-handed inoculating the people by charging specific amount.
Around 14/15 people who are not locals were also found waiting for their turn to get vaccinated, she continued.
Subhasini also revealed that the doctor lied when was asked to bring out documentations to prove that operation was legal, maintaining that he sought approval from the CM and he is only serving the community.
He, however, apologised and affirmed not to indulge in such unauthorised operations in the future.
Speaking in relation to the incident, Thoubal CMO Y Nokul informed that there have been instructions to carry out vaccination only at designated healthcare centres so that immediate response could be given in case of any side effect after receiving the jabs.
He also informed that reports have been received regarding the secretive vaccination operations of Dr A Rajen and the department will decide on what actions to be initiated against him.
Meanwhile, some Committee members were left wondering as to how and from where Dr A Rajen possessed the vaccine doses which are provided only to registered healthcare centres.
