MCPCR to take up suo motu case

Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has decided to take up a suo motu case and probe the incident wherein 16-year-old Sapam Robinson was killed in a police firing on Wednesday.
In a statement MCPCR condemned the killing of the Class XI student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, Nongmeibung in the police action as well as the injuring several other students during the ILP agitation.
The Commission stated that the act of Manipur Police was IN clear violation of Child Rights, especially their Right to Life with human dignity as guaranteed by the Constitution and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Commission in an emergency meeting resolved to take up a suo motu case and probe the incident and in this regard, it has asked the DGP of Manipur Police in writing to furnish details of the incident, the particulars of the police personnel involved in the firing, the statement said.
The MCPCR has also sought details of any action taken, including filing of criminal cases, against those involved in the firing.
It has further informed the National Commission on the Protection of Child Rights on the firing incident seeking necessary action.
