Imphal, November 02 2021:
BJP leaders in the state are facing a massive headache over the unprecedented increase in the large number of candidates seeking to contest the upcoming polls on the party's ticket.
While confirming about the discomfort besieging the party decision makers, a BJP leader has stated that that the frequent mud-slinging between candidates fighting for the party's ticket could affect the results of the upcoming polls heavily.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle in this regard, the BJP leader said that the biggest hurdle for party in the upcoming election is in choosing the right candidate.
As BJP is the ruling party, many intending candidates want to contest the polls on the party's ticket and as such, have been campaigning aggressively to the point of slinging mud at other fellow intending candidates and indulging in poll violence.
"This is not a good sign as this could affect the polls.
Of course, the candidates want to contest on BJP's ticket due to their trust on the party and its national leaders.
However, an injudicious candidate with poor skills of uniting the people could make it difficult for the party to win the elections," the leader remarked.
The BJP leader continued: "A few months ago, BJP state in-charge Sambit Patra met all the intending candidates who want to contest on BJP ticket, one-by-one to assess their respective poll preparedness and mindset.
On top of this, party's national president JP Nadda along with the CM and party leaders held several rounds of talks on the election campaign and selection of candidates.
Even now, more people are joining the party including sitting MLAs of other political parties, who want to contest the polls as BJP candidate.
Thus, the present situation is not conducive for the party in choosing its candidates.
"Nonetheless, BJP is holding various campaigns to ensure its victory in the polls.
The party president is currently meeting the people even through the night, while the government is working to get closer to the people, thereby increasing the people's trust on the party.
"Additionally, the appointment of MP Dr RK Ranjan as a union minister, implementation of ILPS and renaming of Mt Harriet in Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Mount Manipur> will further cement the trust that the people have upon the party," the BJP leader observed.
