Imphal, October 25 2021:
Maintaining that almost all families in Andro assembly constituency are poor with daily wage earning and farming being their main occupations, intending candidate of Congress party from Andro AC Keisham Ningthemjao (KN Singh) has assured of bringing socio-economic improvement in the constituency, especially for women, if he gets elected to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Attending an interaction programme of Andro Block Mahila Congress Committee held on Monday, KN Singh said that Andro is one of the most backward constituencies in the state where youth are left without any income generating opportunities.
Past elected representatives used money power to win elections and as a result, people are living in a sorry state today, he said and affirmed that bringing economic freedom among the people of Andro will be top priority.
Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee president M Salma said that the interaction prorgamme was organised with the objective to understand the issues faced by women, so as to frame policies for addressing the issues.
Despite the tall claims of the BJP government, people, especially women are facing severe hardships under the present regime.
Contrary to the claim of providing free LPG connections, the ground reality is collecting the connection charge on instalment basis.
LPG price is frequently hiked under the pretext of providing subsidy but the ground reality is that many are still deprived of the subsidy amount.
Today, a poor family is being forced to shell out Rs 1000 to get a LPG refill, she said.
M Salma also recalled how BJP turned the country upside down when the then Congress government hiked petrol price due to crude oil price rise.
However, petrol price has crossed Rs 100 and prices of essential commodities are also sky high.
Though the situation might not have much impact on the rich people, the poor are left high and dry, she added.
Andro BCC former president Alhaj Saukat Ali, Andro Block Mahila Congress Committee president Keisham Angoubi and other party leaders were also present during the interaction programme.
