Five held with heroin, poppy plants destroyed

Imphal, January 17 2022:
Narcotics Cell, Imphal East arrested five people along with heroin from different parts of the state on Sunday.
According to a police source, a team of Narcotics Cell, Imphal East along with volunteers of YADA and executive magistrate conducted frisking in Kiyamgei Thongkhong area from 3.45pm on Sunday.
During the frisking, Oinam Ingo (27) son of Ingochabi of Kakwa Nameirakpam, Thokchom Dayananda Singh (38) son of Dililkumar of Koirou Thongju Part II and S Naocha (43) son of late Lokendro of Kakwa Nameirakpam were detained.
During checking of the trio, 59 plastic vials containing heroin were recovered from the possession of Oinam Ingo, On further checking, the tern recovered 40 more plastic vials containing heroin from Naocha and Dayananda as well.
Total heroin contained in the recovered plastic vials could be around 23gm and all of them were later handed over to Irilbung police station for further necessary action.
On the other hand, another team of Narcotics Cell, Imphal East led by OC inspector Kh Devkumar along with YADA and executive magistrate nabbed two drug smugglers from Kiyamgei Karampali.
The arrested drug smugglers are identified as Md Habibur (32) son of Md Rahimuddin of Kshetri Mayai Leikai and Md Nasir (25) son of Md Soukat Ali of Thoubal Moijing but presently residing at Hatta Golapati.
Altogether, 626 gm of heroin was recovered from Md Nashir and Md Habibur is said to be nnancer of the drug.
Both of them too had been handed over to Irilbung police station for further necessary action.
In another drive, a large team of Imphal East police which also included personnel of Narcotics Cell, Imphal East, led by SDPO Lamlai along with a Sagolmang police station team led by OC destroyed standing poppy plantation spread over 15 acres along the Changsang hill range under Kangpokpi district on Monday.
According to a police source, the drive carried out under the aegis of SP Imphal East was also participated by executive magistrate of Kangpokpi as the jurisdiction of area falls under Kangpokpi district.
The police team led by SDPO Lamlai included Narcotic Cells, Imphal East OC inspector Kh Devkumar.
The destroyed poppy plants would worth around Rs 4 crore in local market and Sagolmang PS has registered a case in this regard.
In Chandel district, a combined team of Chandel district Police comprising ASP (LO), SDPO, team of Chakpikarong PS led by OC, NAB and personnel of 6 MR, 7 MR and 6 IRB destroyed about 110 acres of poppy plantation on the hill slope of Govok village around 11 am on Monday.
According to a Police report, the poppy plantation site is located about 12 km southeast of Chakpikarong Police station.
