Imphal, March 13 2014 :
The Wangkhei Angom Leikai United Youth Club (WALUYC) has urged State Government to repair the short and busy road section stretching from Thangal General Memorial Temple to Andro Parking along Wangkhei-Kongba route in Imphal East.
The section of the Wangkhei-Kongba road has remained in very bad shape since very long time, RK Gokulchand, president, WALUYC, said while talking to the media at the club.
He urged the State Government to take steps for repairing the said portion of the road before the Yaoshang festival.
He said Rs 6 crore was sanctioned under the Special Plan Assistance (SPA) 2013-14 by the PWD to take up repairing work on Sanjethong bridge, the road stretch from Thangal general Temple to Andro Parking and Govidanjee Temple in order to refurbish the area before the Manipur Sangai Festival 2013 .
In the road development work, the said portion of the road was left untouched by the PWD citing difficulties that drinking water pipeline is laid in the middle of the stretch, he said.
Now, the pipe has developed about six holes leaking water and flooding the road, therefore the seepage has disrupted commuters, he said.
He alleged that the matter relating to the failure of developing the road portion is solely due to the lack of coordination between the Public Works Department and the Public Health Department.
Gokulchand also appealed to the Works minister and the Chief Engineer, PWD to take up necessary action to facilitate the repairing work before the Holi festival.
Meanwhile, an intense drive against the liquor vendors in and around the Andro Parking area is likely to launch soon under the leadership of Superintendant of Police, Imphal East district, Angam Kamei with the help of local clubs, sources said.
