State collects Rs 34.63 lakh per month as power tariff from mobile companies

While informing that the Government collects Rs 34.63 lakh every month as power tariff from mobile phone service companies operating in the State, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stressed on the need for reining in unchecked installation of mobile phone towers in the state by issuing permits as such practice could become a serious problem in near future.
Replying to a question raised by opposition MLA Dr I Ibohalbi in the State Assembly session today, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh informed the House there are 552 mobile phone towers in the state and the Government has been providing power supply to the mobile companies for operating these towers.
Asked about the precautionary measures taken up by the state Government with regard to reported health hazards caused by cell phone towers, the Chief Minister admitted that mobile phone towers have been installed very densely in the state, but clarified tat there is no proof till date of cell towers' adverse effects on health.
Nonetheless, he hastened to add that Government will take up steps to issue permits before installation of mobile phone towers which could become a serious problem in near future.
