Imphal, April 29 2022:
The indefinite economic blockade called along the Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur road from the midnight of April 28 against non-release of MGNREGS fund by state government to local bodies has been called off with immediate effect.
According to MGNREGA Implementing Agency Committee convener Maisnam Manikchand, the economic blockade along the two national highways has been withdrawn following release of the pending amount of Rs 230.02 crore by state's finance department with consent of the chief minister.
Manikchand told media persons during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club here on Friday that Central government had released MGNREGA fund amounting Rs 230.02 crore (second instalment) meant for MGNREGA's first tranche wages, material and administrative components for the financial year 2021-22 but the state government held back the amount for a long time.
However, the finance department has released the entire amount on Friday subsequent to formal parleys with the chief minister and accordingly suspended the blockade with immediate effect, he added.
Manikchand also thanked all the people who supported and endorsed the blockade.
He also thanked state government for releasing the amount while understanding plight of poor joo card holders.
