Imphal, April 29 2022:
Taking serious note of the pitiful conditions of many of the government schools which were "upgraded" to higher secondary level; six student bodies - AMSU, DESAM, KSA, AIMS, MSF and SUK, have remarked that the schools are being ignored by the government after the upgrade to an extent that these schools have been forced to engage teachers from outside due to shortages.
Addressing a press meet held at MSF office here on Friday, MSF general secretary Hijam Roshan said that the Covid-19 pandemic had severely impacted the social, economic, agriculture, education and other sectors of the state for around two years.
With regard to the education sector, students appearing for Class X examination were given promotion, which created an issue when the students sought admissions in Class XI in the limited number of government schools.
As such, the government upgraded 9 schools to higher secondary level in 2021.He continued that when a team of the student bodies visited two of the "upgraded" schools, namely Praja Higher Secondary School, Lamsang and Khonghampat Higher Second ary School, they found both in pitiful conditions.
The schools were facing shortage of teachers and inadequate infrastructures along with equipment for science laboratories.
The schools were also found engaging teachers from outside to make up the shortages.
Remarking that the "Modern Education System" being implemented by the government in the above schools is not up to the mark, he urged the authorities concerned to rectify the matter at the earliest.
The government should also see to the utilisation of more teachers, installation of necessary laboratories and equipment and other issues to see to the proper development of students.
Anything short of this will compel the six student bodies to assume that the government is trying to ruin the academic career of future generation, he stated.
