NE Sports: Manipur win gold in team archery, badminton & TT

Imphal, April 29 2022:
Manipur won five medals including three gold on the second day of the North East Regional Sports Week as the day's football and boxing competitions also saw another bright day for the hosts.
The day's strong showing helped Manipur top the med al tally with three gold (one each in archery, badminton & table tennis) and one silver and one bronze each.
Assam won two gold, two silver and one bronze medals, Mizoram bagged a gold medal, Arunachal Pradesh claimed a silver and Nagaland took two bronze medals.
ARCHERY
The men's recurve team gave Manipur their first gold medal of the Sports Week as the women's team faltered at the final hurdle to settle for silver at SAI-NERC, Takyel, on Friday.
The state quartet of Akoi-jam Amarjit Singh, L Yuhen ba Meitei, W Leonard and M Malemnganba Meitei combined to secure the gold medal in the recurve men's team event.
Assam's team composed of Production Borgoyary, Sanjoy Boro, Mukesh Boro and Sansula Machahry finished second and Naga land took the bronze medal courtesy of Kilenmeren, Mhathung Lotha, Keneisao Theunuo and Teisovi Lohe.
In the recurve women's contest, the state women comprising Thounaojam Swashita Devi, Yumnam Anupama, Jeniffer Paonam and Gangmei Languilu bagged the silver medal.
Assam's team of Promila Daimary, Jashna Brahma, Sonali basumatary and Akhapwr Basumatary won the women's recurve com petition while Nagaland's Ruovinuo Theunuo, Kevikiennuo Rikha, Edikunu Rikha and Rovine Domeh helped their state claim the bronze.
BADMINTON
Manipur's badminton team delivered another stellar performance in the final against Arunachal Pradesh to walk away with the gold medal.
The pair of K Dingku Singh and Kh Manjit Singh gave Manipur a 1-0 lead when they defeated their Arunachali duo of Charu Jaji and Laa Talar 21-14, 21-8 in the men's doubles event.
Ksh Maheshwari Devi made it 2-0 after beating her opponent Laa Yayum 21-11, 21-18 in the women's singles duel.
Then M Meiraba Luwang's 21-11, 21-10 victory over Laa Talar helped Manipur make a clean sweep of the final matches to clinch the team gold medal.
TABLE TENNIS
In the day's another fruitful result, Manipur beat Assam 3-1 in the final of the men's table tennis team event to claim top podium honours.
Earlier, the state team eased past Tripura 3-0 in their semifinal match.
En route to the final, Khelendrajit Yengkhom outdid Arijit Das 11-7, 11-4, 11-8 as fellow Ksh Segal Singh dominated Rameez Raja Khan 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 and Karam Rohit Singh made sure Manipur sailed into the final by a 3-0 margin with an 11-5, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8 triumph against Prantajit Roy.
Assam, meanwhile, downed Mizoram in their semifinal match courtesy of performances by Kaushik Phukan, Zeedan Gogon and Kalyan Singh.
FOOTBALL
In football, Manipur were the first to team to reach the semifinals of the women's competition.
The state women produced a 3-0 hammering of Arunachal Pradesh in their second match on Friday to top Group A table and ensure their place in the last four.
Sultana opened the scoring in the 14th minute and S Rinaroy made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute before Ksh Naocha tripled the lead in the 75th minute for the eventual result.
The home team will face the runners-up of Group B on May 1.In the day's other women's matches, Nagaland cruised past Mizoram 4-0 in a Group B encounter and Sikkim upstaged Tripura 4-1 in another Group B contest.
In men's football, Mizoram enjoyed an easy 3-0 win over Sikkim in their Group A meeting while Arunachal Pradesh beat Tripura 4-2 in a Group B match.
BOXING
Seven state boxers punched their way to the semifinals on the second day of the sports meet.
In the women's event, Thiyam Apsara Devi (-46kg), Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu (-57kg), Huidrom Ambeshori Devi (-57kg) and Tingneilhing Chongloi (-70kg) all triumphed in their quarterfinal bouts to ensure medals for Manipur.
Other women semi-finalists were Archana Thapa (-46kg), H Jamuna (-57kg) and Nirmal (-60kg) of Nagaland; Minu Cheda (-54kg) and Tadar Meku (-54kg) of Arunachal Pradesh; and Anjali Machahary (-63kg) of Assam.
The day's men's event saw Soibam Yaiphaba Singh (-50kg), Chungneireng M Kom (-60kg) and Leimapok pam Rahul Singh (-75kg) book semifinal spots following their successful quarter-final results.
Assam's Gourav Mazumder (-50kg), Tridip Kalita (-52kg), Manuj Thakur (-54kg) and Tahiluddin Borah (-66kg); Arunachal's Heli Tana Tara (-48kg), Guruk Pordung (-57kg) and Marge Gara (-70kg); Mizoram's Lalmuankima (48kg), Van lalhriatkima (-63kg) and Malsawmkima (-66kg); and Nagaland's Sachin (-57kg) and Sohil Khan (-60kg) also progressed to the men's semifinals.
