Imphal, April 29 2022:
Manipur Secretariat Services Association (MSSA) has submitted a memorandum to the state's chief secretary reiterating the demand for scrapping the National Pension Scheme (NPS) and to implement the Old Pension Scheme.
Informing this to the media, MSSA president Purujit Lairikyengbam pointed out that NPS was implemented nationwide from 2004 and in the state since 2005 .
Stating that NPS is a pension scheme without any social security, the president explained that under the scheme the employees have to contribute 10 per cent of their salary while the employer contributes the same amount on monthly basis.
It deprives the employees of many benefits which they used to get under the old pension scheme, he said.
The memorandum stated that many state governments have constituted their review committees to look into the matter of restoring the old pension scheme in place of NPS and appropriate actions are being taken up to resolve/settle it amicably.
States like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Punjab have already scrapped the NPS and subsequently restored the Old Pension Scheme.
In this regard, a general body meeting specifically for all officers and employees of Manipur Secretariat, who have been covered by the NPS, under the banner of Manipur Secretariat Services' Association and Manipur Secretariat Non-Ministerial Drivers' Association with their executive committees was held on the April 26.The meeting unanimously resolved to urge the state government to look into the matter and restore the old pension scheme immediately before it is too late and undesirable situations are invited, it added.
Meanwhile, Purujit also informed that the association will hold another round of meeting on May 6 to discuss the matter further.
