Imphal, May 16 2021:
Imposition of curfew and lockdown has not only made the poor and unfortunate people helpless but also rendered them to lead life like serving jail term in their homes, stated Human Rights Defender Manipur (HRDM) general secretary Rakesh Moirangthem.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Rakesh observed that it would be right to enquire well-being of the people just like seeking vote during election time by going from house to house.
It is necessary to look after well-being of people to save and protect them from the pandemic, he said, adding that curfew and lockdown are akin to locking people in their own homes and hence an alternative formula or policy need to be devised.
He also said that it is the duty of the government to ensure two square meals a day to the poor and unfortunate people who have been forced indoors rather than sustain their livelihood activities.
The human rights activist also stressed the need for taking up stringent steps and policy to enhance Covid consciousness among the people and taking up welfare activities on war footing.
He also said that Covid test should be made mandatory for all the people entering Manipur irrespective of possessing certificate or not and testing centres should be opened at airport, Jiribam, Mao, Moreh, etc.
