Imphal, April 14 2012:
As in the past, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) would be observing 32nd Realisation Day on April 17 at Pishum Ching, Singjamei.
At the occasion, floral tributes would be paid to the martyred students who laid down their lives during the anti-foreigner agitation at their memorial located atop Pishum hillock at 9 am, and it would be followed by a public meeting at the nearby HAO Ground at 11 am.
In a statement, Secretary General of AMSU Dipanjit Ningthoujam has appealed to all the people to come and participate in the observance.
Dipanjit said that observance of 32nd Realisation Day and remembering the sacrifices made during the anti-foreigner issue in 1980 is becoming even more relevant today in the light of increasing number of outsiders who have already crossed 30 percent of the total population of Manipur as per 2001 census.
However, the Directorate of Census, Government of Manipur has not made any official statement on the number of outsiders this time even though the Census Report of 2011 has already indicated an increase of 4,27,860 people in Manipur over the last decade, Dipanjit lamented, adding that this is very unfortunate for all the people of Manipur.
It is said that on the sideline of the observance, a blood donation camp would also be organised starting from 10 am near the observance site.
