Ukhrul, March 14 2022:
Going by the pre-poll spirit, there is likelihood that the BJP will take on board its previous coalition partners like NPF in the formation of a new government, despite winning an absolute majority.
Taking cognisance of this, different Tangkhul students' organisations have appealed to the saffron party leader ship to accommodate a cabinet berth to one of the MLAs from Ukhrul district in the soon-to-be-formed government.
In a joint press communique, Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL), Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long (ZTKL), Sagolmang Area Naga Students' Association (SANSA), Yang Raphei Longnao (YRL) and Northern Raphei Students' Union (NRSU) stated that the move will go a long way in ensuring inclusiveness for peaceful coexistence of the hills and valley in the state.
"We will appreciate it if you could accommodate a cabinet berth to one of the MLAs from Ukhrul district," the statement said.
According to the students' organisations, it's been more than two decades since a ministerial berth was last allotted to Ukhrul district, particularly Chingai assembly constituency.
"Among the MLAs from Ukhrul district, we feel it's very necessary to assign a cabinet berth to the Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum, who represents the neglected area of the state, which borders Nagaland state and Myanmar," it continued.
The statement added that in the event of allotting a cabinet berth to the said MLA, the people could look forward to an equitable development in the state and it will also help in achieving the vision of hills and valley as one.
While congratulating the BJP for returning to power with absolute majority in the state, the statement noted that the result of the recently concluded assembly elections is an indication of the inclusive policy being cultivated by the BJP in its previous term.
