Three labourers die of suffocation

Imphal, March 14 2013:
Three labourers died of suffocation inside a hole they were digging to make a well in Imphal West district's Nongthonbam under Sekmai Police Station in Manipur on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Khundrakpam Surchandra, 30, Maibam Bocha, 27, and Nameirakpam Apon, 27, all residents of Leipakon Awang Sekmai.
According to police sources, the incident happened around 2 pm when two labourers who were digging a well at a farmhouse in Nongthonbam village got stuck inside it and died.
The farmhouse belongs to one Angom Nilamangol of Sekmai Makha Leikai.
Another two labours went inside the well in rescue of the duo but one of them also died, reports said.
The fire brigade along with the locals fished out the bodies from the well after the oxygen was pumped in.
The bodies have been brought to the mortuary of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Sekmai Police has registered a case in connection with the incident.
