At a time when MPP is witnessing a decline in its political fortune, Nongmeikapam Sovakiran has been elected as the party's new president unopposed.
This was announced during a party conference held today where the party's annual budget for 2013 amounting to Rs 32 lakhs was passed.
The party conference also passed the annual account statements of 2011 and 2012 which amounted to Rs 71,93,429 and 48,56,475 respectively.
The annual account statement of 2012 mentioned that around Rs three lakhs were taken by some leaders of the party without giving any convincing reason though due entry was made in the cash book.
It also mentioned about Rs nine lakhs which should be recovered from four individuals.
As per the annual budget of the current year, the receipt target is Rs 32 lakhs, out of which Rs 20 lakhs was set aside for estimated expenditure and the remaining Rs 12 lakhs was put under surplus/excess saving.

The new budget does not have any provision of collecting security deposits for shops owned by MPP.
Notably, MPP has 140 shops within its complex.
Taking serious note of the lapses in collection of shop rents, a financial sub-committee was set up to investigates into the flaws and loopholes.
The sub-committee after investigation came up with a white paper following which shopkeepers were made to pay rents through bank.
Subsequently, the party is now able to collect Rs 2.45 lakhs from shop rents this.
In the past two years, the party could collect only Rs 1.67 lakh and 2.23 lakhs only.
Along with formulation of the party's financial rule 2013, its central committee has given its approval.
During the conference today, returning officer H Nabashyam declared that N Sovakiran has been declared MPP president unopposed as per the party's election rules.
Incidentally, Sovakiran served as the party's interim president for three months before he was elected to the post of MPP president today.
Sovakiran, about 52 years of age, is a native of Ukhongshang village under Heirok Assembly constituency.
He was elected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Heirok AC.
Addressing the conference, MPP advisor Dr L Chandramani recalled that MPP was set up on December 26, 1968 with the fundamental objectives of protecting integrity of Manipur and make it a progressive state.
He also called upon the gathering to extend unstinted support to Sovakiran so as to re-invigorate and strengthen the party.
Conveying his gratitude to the gathering for electing him as the party president without any opposition, Sovakiran stated that MPP would struggle relentlessly to ensure that Inner Line Permit System is enforced in Manipur.
He also declared that MPP would always stand against Armed Forces Special Powers Act and the invasion by drugs.
