Imphal, July 09 2015 : Around 700 paris of standing crops have been destroyed and hundreds of houses and fish ponds submerged under water after the northern bank of Tentha Khunou Maning Leikai section of Wangjing Tentha river caved in.

The village area under Thoubal district has been flooded by the overflowed water from the river when the river bank breached around 7:30 am, said Tentha Heibung Tranquility Club, Tentha in a release on Thursday.

Not a single official from the IFCD came to the village till 5 pm, it said.

It claimed that 2000 sacks and eight bamboo mats were taken from Keirak Dam through the help of an IFCD Assistant Engineer around 3:30 pm for repairing the breached section of the river bank.

But no help or materials were given to the villagers from the office of District Headquarters Flood Control Thoubal located at the residential gate of Chief Minister O Ibobi, the local club said.
