Imphal, February 08 2015:
Pangal Political Forum has said that they would oppose dismantling of a Masjid in Ukhrul until a suitable place for the construction of a new Masjid is provided in
the town.
It may be mentioned that an order issued on February 5 by DC Hrisheekesh Modak had allotted the area of old SDO office complex including adjoining areas towards the western side where some Government quarters and Masjid are located for the construction of District and Sessions Court, Ukhrul.
The order also informed the general public that all the standing buildings would be dismantled shortly.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Forum spokesperson MI Khan said that the existing Masjid was built in 1995 after the Government allotted land for this purpose.
However, a recent Government order has informed that the said Masjid would be dismantled soon for the construction of a Court complex.
Although taking up development work is a welcome step, people would oppose eviction of religious places in the name of development, he added.
He said that people would never allow the lone Masjid of Ukhrul town to be pulled down until a suitable place is allotted for the construction of a new Masjid.
Demanding the Government to halt the process of holding foundation stone laying ceremony of the Court building, MI Khan said that the Forum is planning to hold a joint meeting of the leaders of different communities in this regard.
