Elderly man abducted, shot dead

A man reportedly abducted by suspected cadres of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has been found dead at Marangching (Makhuam) Part-I, Tamenglong district under Noney police station.
Meanwhile, the ZUF has claimed its hand in shooting the abducted man dead.
The deceased victim has been identified as one Gondamei Angam alias Gaikhuilung (61) s/o late GD Dingthao of Marangching Part-IV .
He was abducted from his home by suspected cadres of ZUF at around 1 am of February 6 .
At around 10 am today, one Pastor informed family members that Angam alias Gaikhuilung has been found shot.
The Pastor also made all efforts to save Angam and he hired an ambulance from 10 Assam Rifles.
But Angam succumbed to the bullet injury on the way to hospital, informed a source.
A bullet injury mark was seen on Angam's right knee.
Marangching village is divided into five parts.
While Part-I is located at the hill top, the other parts are located below in sequential order.
After being abducted from his home, Angam was taken to the hill top.
He is survived by two sons and five daughters.
Whereas a case has been registered at Noney police station, the corpse has been brought to JNIMS for post mortem.
Representatives of UNC, ZU and ANSAM reportedly came to JNIMS morgue this evening.
According to a release issued by ZUF information and publicity secretary A Dangmei, Gaikhuilung Gondaimei, of Makhuam part IV, Tamenglong district, was punished for his anti-party activities and for being an informer to the adversary.
Adin Gondaimei s/o Gaikhuilung Gondaimei (accused) was a cadre of the ZUF but was advised by his father (Gaikhuilung) to desert from the Zeliangrong Tiger Force (ZTF).
Thus, Adin Gondaimei a cadre of ZUF had abandoned his camp without giving any prior information and did not come back in spite of several notifications.
After thorough investigation, his father Gaikhuilung Gondaimei was summoned to ZUF base camp for interrogation on February 6 last and confessed his misdeeds.
- He further confessed that he went to 10 AR and assured AR officers that he would request his son Adin, a ZUF cadre, to work with them hand in hand as an informer to track down ZUF camps.
Again, Gaikhuilung Gondaimei asked AR for his son's security, to which the latter assured.
Further it stated that the father-son duo were in constant contact with the adversary.
For his inappropriate behaviour and as well as for his anti-party activities he had given befitting punishment according to Zeliangrong customary law, claimed the ZUF.
