Water levels rise, DCs alerted

Imphal, October 23 2020:
With the State receiving incessant rainfall since the past few days, water levels of all major rivers flowing through Manipur valley have been rising at an alarming rate.
As such, the Relief and Disaster Management Department has alerted all Deputy Commissioners.
According to information received from Water Resources Department, Imphal River has been flowing above warning level at 787.750 metres.
Water levels of Iril River, Nambul River and Thoubal River have reached 779.400 metres, 782.225 metres and 774 metres respectively.
Kangpokpi received 45 mm of rainfall this morning though it declined to 39 mm in the afternoon.

Saikul received 15 mm of rainfall in the morning and 11 mm in the afternoon, Litan 18 mm in the morning and 11 mm in the afternoon.
Raj Bhavan received 8 mm in the morning, Lam-phel 9 mm and Jiribam 19.40 mm.
As water has been found seeping through Imphal River embankment at Salanthong area, the particular section is being repaired and reinforced.
Meanwhile Relief and Disaster Management Department has warned all DCs that the incessant rainfall may trigger landslides and floods any time.
The DCs have also been asked to take up all possible precautionary measures.
The department has opened standard helpline number 1070 at the State emergency operation centre.
People may also call at 0385-2443441.Meanwhile, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change informed that Tengnoupal received 117.8 mm of rainfall today, Tamenglong 50.2 mm, Senapati 25.9 mm, Kangpokpi 35.8 mm, Churachandpur 77.4 mm, Noney 57.8 mm and Bishnupur 28.2 mm .
