Imphal, February 18 2015:
Sagolmang located at the junction of Senapati and Ukhrul districts has been eagerly awaiting Government's intervention to lift them from the misery of underdevelopment.
Speaking to media persons at Sinakeithei (Sanakeithel), about 50 Kms away from Mahadev junction of Imphal-Ukhrul road today, Sagolmang Area Naga Long president CL Shangai said that Sagolmang was named so after one horse of the king got lost/disappeared there.
The hill range which spans over both Ukhrul and Senapati districts and which is the home to 24 villages is known as Sagolmang area.
Earlier, there were as many as 150 villages in Sagolmang area.
The area is still very backward in terms of transport infrastructure, health care facilities, education, electricity etc.
Villages of Sagolmang are divided into different constituencies.
While some belong to Ukhrul, others belong to Chingai, still some others to Karong A/C and the remaining villages to Saikul A/C .
The IVRs connecting these villages churn out columns of dust during dry season and during rainy seasons they are no better than mule tracks.
The villagers have to go through these horrible roads to reach Ukhrul district headquarters, Senapati district headquarters or Imphal for medical treatment and other requirements.
There are PHCs or PHSCs but none of them have the required equipment and staff.
The situation is equally pathetic in the field of education.
There is a high school in Sagolmang area but shortage of teachers and non-teaching staff has been dogging the school.
As such, parents have been sending their children to schools located at Ukhrul district headquarters, Senapati district headquarters or Imphal which entails heavy financial burden on the parents.
Sagolmang Area Naga Long was set up in 1943.Since then, office bearers of the organisation have been appealing to the local MLAs and Government officers to share at least some benefits of Government schemes with the people of Sagolmang area.
Power supply is always irritatingly erratic.
Moreover, the area has been enduring the woes of unreliable or bad communication, Shangai said.
Despite all these tales of woes, the area is gifted with fertile land and the villagers have been depending on agricultural produces for their livelihood, Shangai added.
