Boycott lifted

Following an understanding between the Editors' Guild, Manipur and Assam Rifles authorities, the former's decision to boycott all news items related to AR in protest against the physical assault on Impact TV Bureau Chief Noren Ningombam by the CO of 9 AR at Moreh has been withdrawn temporarily.
A team of Editors' Guild, Manipur and 26 Sector AR Commander Brigadier Rajeev Chhiber held a meeting on the issue today.
The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union had earlier lifted the boycott following an understanding with the Assam Rifles officer.
During the meeting Brig Rajeev Chhiber said that an enquiry is being conducted into the incident and it would be completed very soon.
The Brigadier also assur-ed that he would ensure no such incidents happen in future.
On their part, the Editors' Guild appealed to AR authorities to ensure hassle free movement of journalists as far as possible.
They also expressed keen desire to hold media sensitisation programmes for all AR personnel posted in Manipur at the level of IGAR.
While acknowledging the professional hazards of journalists in Manipur, Brig Rajeev Chhiber appealed to lift the boycott.
Responding to the appeal, the guild assured that the decision to boycott all AR related news would be withdrawn temporarily, conveyed a press release.
