Imphal, February 18 2015:
The inauguration of a bridge built over Barak River along Tamei-Tenning Road scheduled to be held on February 19 has been deferred following a meeting between representatives of Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) and State Works Minister on Tuesday.
According to a statement of ZYF, the bridge has been built under the funding of Northeastern Council (NEC) to facilitate connectivity between Manipur and Nagaland.
However, some technical defects were detected on the newly constructed bridge in the nature of overlapping of cable string on the eastern side.
ZYF had already submitted a representation to State Works Minister urging him to defer the inauguration of the new bridge till the defects are rectified.
The defects, if not rectified, could lead to massive tragedy whenever loaded vehicle pass through the bridge, it added.
