State level pineapple festival winds up

The State level pineapple festival held at Thambalnu Market, Poiroupat Lamkhai since July 6 came to an end today.
The festival was organised by the Development Organisation Andro Kendra (DOAK) under the sponsorship of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
Presentation of incentives to selected pineapple farmers, dance and music programme and Pineapple Queen Contest were the main features of the closing ceremony.
It was the ninth edition of the State level pineapple festival held there.
MLA Th Shyamkumar, Imphal East Adhyaksha P Bimola, NEC Secretary Ram Muivah, Imphal East DC M Joy, Imphal ADC O Leimaton, RD&PR Director Dr K Shyamsunder, NEC Advisor M Iboyaima and former Zilla Parishad Member K Nilakomon attended the closing ceremony as presidium members.

Speaking at the gathering, Ram Muivah said that Santhei Park of Andro was developed with funding from NEC.
He said that the NEC has been working to invest Rs 2 crore for development of the site where there is a sacred fire and which is closely related with the rich culture and heritage of Andro.
Informing that the NEC has also been planning to take up a water supply scheme, Ram Muivah said that Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for construction of a hostel for Poiroukhong High School.
Attributing all these development works to the relentless efforts of MLA Th Shyamkumar, Ram Muivah asserted that Manipur can certainly march ahead on the path of development and progress if there are more MLAs like Shyamkumar.
Shyamkumar said that they faced lots of difficulties in organising the festival till last year but there was some relief this year due to assistance provided by NEC.
Chief Minister O Ibobi while inaugurating the festival on July 6 announced that the Ngarian-Andro road would be repaired, Shyamkumar reminded.
He then conveyed gratitude to the Chief Minister, the NEC Secretary, officials of the State Planning Department, pineapple farmers and people of Andro AC for their contribution towards making the festival a success.
Altogether 240 stalls were opened at the festival and 7090 quintals of pineapples were put on sale and 9000 litres of pineapple juice were sold.
